When you live in a climate with long dry summers, then you can see why air conditioned dog houses would be a great idea. In some states the temperatures can reach above 100 degrees and stay that way for long periods of time. If your dog stays outside, these temperatures can cause him to have serious health problems. He could suffer a heat stroke and death from over exposure to heat is very common.
However, if he had an air conditioner in his dog house, that would solve the problem. He could stay outside where he feels the most comfortable and still be protected from the heat. Now, before you rush right out and buy an air conditioned dog house there are a few things that you need to consider first. Some of these are listed below:
• Do you want to buy a dog house that already has a unit installed? If so, then you need to check out your different options to see what is available.
• Do you want to add an air conditioner to an existing dog house? If this is your plan, you have a few decisions to make.
• You'll need to choose between a side mount and one that sits on the ground.
• Choose a size that is appropriate for the dog house. You don't want a large unit for something this small.
• Make sure the dog house is insulated to hold the temperature.
If you purchase a dog house already equipped with an air conditioner, then it should already be designed out of the right material to stay cool. However, if you're adding the unit to the house you already have, then it needs to be air tight. Check for holes, cracks and make sure the door seals itself when your pet goes in and out. If you just have an open space for the door, then consider installing a doggie door like the ones used in homes that will seal itself or something similar.
A dog house shouldn't be too large. In fact, the ideal size is just big enough for them to turn around and stretch out comfortably. So when buying your pet a home, keep this in mind. If you're worried about the electric bill going up too much, don't. Air conditioned dog houses use very little electricity but they could save the life of your beloved pet.
