Hey Dood Friends!
I had no idea what I was getting myself into! I read a ton about walking on a leash and have yet to be able to carry it out effectively. So she’s supposed to walk beside or behind me. Gave that one a try and Lilah would have nothing to do with it. I tried Cesar’s advice of holding the leash like a briefcase with the collar high up on Lilah’s neck. I tried holding the leash across my body as another suggested. She wants to be in front or going in circles around me. Now she doesn’t travel far in front, maybe two to three feet ahead and usually keeps looking back at me, but isn’t that demonstrating a lack of leadership. When I give up (I know, I shouldn’t do that either), she spends the rest of the time leaping up at me for who know what reason. The walk has only one positive point I can see and that is that we are both exhausted by the end of it. I really want to succeed at the walk because I really do believe it can strengthen the dog/owner relationship as well as provide an important outlet for our active dog. Pointers, please? Let me know what I am doing wrong. I’ll take criticism with gladness! I want to communicate to Lilah how the walk is supposed to go, so that we both can enjoy it better.
P.S.- Lilah is currently 14 weeks old.
P.S.S.- Lilah only weighs 23 ibs. I'd like to conquer this before she gets too big for me to control.
