Ticks

Does anyone know much about ticks? Or how Frontline Plus works? We've been putting the Frontline plus on Lilah every month. Last night, my husband came home with Lilah from a short hike (where we live in the NC Appalachian mountains). He was getting settled in when he noticed a tick on her. And in moments, we realized how bad it really was. The next 40 minutes were spent combing through her thick mane and retrieving at least 30 ticks from her coat! It was a nightmare, like one of those dreams where bugs are crawling all over you and you can't get away from them. All but one of the ticks, thanks to her difficult mane, had not latched on yet. They were just tangled up in her hair, but everywhere, around her eyes, one in her ear, even in-between her toes. After we finished de-ticking her, we decide to finally groom her and spent the rest of the night doing it. We hadn't really wanted to cut her cute shagginess away. But we were afraid we hadn't gotten them all (and we hadn't, we found 2 more when clipping her hair). We clipped her down to 1/2", except her face and tail. Now she looks quite adorable with her new cut, far more attractive (and so much softer) than I had imagined, but we're still concerned. I'll call the vet today, but in the mean time, is she going to be ok? Do you think the one that got attached could make her sick? Is this possible to prevent in the future? Needless to say, in these on coming months, we are going to avoid the woods and tall grasses with her. We'll save hiking for the fall. Any advice would be appreciated.
