Now that spring has arrived has anybody else noticed a change in their goldendoodle? We certainly have, and it happens at about the same time every year. Our dog has gone crazy, in a good way of course.
I don’t know what it is but the fresh spring air and all the new growth seems to turn our goldendoodle into a silly monster. He can’t wait to go outside and play. When he finally gets out all he wants to do is run and play. It doesn’t matter where or with who, he just wants to play. He loves to run around with his nose to the ground checking things out. There are tons of new smells and scents that spring tends to bring out with all the new grass, flowers etc.
It’s really amazing what scents your dog can pick up with their nose and even more astounding how these smells affect your dog. Every dog is different but they all react in a similar way. It’s almost like they get a second wind or a new outlook on life when the spring season comes around.
My dog gets very anxious to go outside (he always does but twice as often in the spring). He paces around the house close to the side door where his leash is to go outside. When we get out he is pulling on the leash like he has no manners or never been to training. As soon as we find some grass his nose is straight to the ground and he’s racing around frantically sniffing everything. It’s almost like he’s going to miss something. I love to watch him do it because he becomes so focused with no distractions.
I think we all should take a little lesson from our dogs about changing our attitudes and emotions when spring comes around. All the freshness and new life in the air should uplift our spirits and make us all happy and excited about things to come. I`m not saying we have to behave like our dogs, all crazy and excited. But we should take notice of them and share their enthusiasm for life when spring comes around. After all, they`re smarter animals than we give them credit for.
